This may be a case of unreasonable expectations leading to unhappiness, but this place is just not good. I think the truth is that it is way too expensive for the quality of the food.
First of all, people keep saying it's authentic. Unless authentic Italian food is tasteless and bland, I don't think so. I've had better Italian food at Olive Garden. This place sucks. The food is just not good. Maybe it used to be, but nowadays, it's really not flavorful.
Bruschetta runs at almost $10 a plate. As an appetizer. Salads are anywhere from $9.50 to $12.00 a plate. I had their gnocchi, one of their recommended plates, and it was just blah. No flavor, nothing special. It was $16.50 and came with no meat, no salad, nothing. Just a plate of gnocchi in sauce. Yeah, that's right. Their recommended dishes do not come with sides, bread, or meat. Even though they're expensive. I've been there before, for lunch, and had their most "delicious dish ever", the Parmesan chicken and again, just blah.
On top of all that, the decor and service are terrible. The tables are covered with plastic, picnic-like tablecloths, and are narrow and uncomfortable. The servers seem more interested in chatting with each other than actually serving people. This doesn't apply to the people with the bread, who were, in all fairness, very attentive.
I'm fine with paying $20 a person for a restaurant, but not one that doesn't give good food or service.
One caveat: this place is great for desserts. They're all about $5-7, but so worth it. They're huge and delicious. I would recommend going to their dessert kiosk and skipping the food. So yeah, 4 for the actual restaurant and 9 on desserts.
